There’s something deeply nostalgic about walking through a field of evergreens, knowing you’ll soon carry home the centerpiece of your holiday season. Visiting a u-pick Christmas tree farm is more than just shopping for decorations. It’s about making memories, supporting Alabama farmers and bringing home a fresh, fragrant reminder of the season.
For many families, the trip itself becomes a holiday tradition. Farms across the state invite visitors to wander the rows, sip hot cocoa, snap photos and pick out the perfect tree. Choosing local means fresher trees that last longer and a chance to meet the farmers who grew them. It also supports sustainability, since most tree farms plant a new tree for every one cut.

Buying local also means buying fresh. Trees grown in Alabama don’t spend weeks in cold storage or travel across the country before they reach your home. The result is a tree that lasts longer, holds its needles better and carries the fragrance of the season. And every purchase supports Alabama farmers who have spent years shaping and tending each tree.
In Thorsby, Ginger Duncan and her family have been welcoming Christmas tree lovers since 2004. Neely Farms Christmas Trees is home to Leyland Cypress, Virginia Pine and several other varieties, they also offer pre-cut options and handmade wreaths. Guests are greeted with hot cocoa as they browse the fields and gift shop filled with ornaments and keepsakes.
“Our Christmas tree farm is more than just a business, it’s a family tradition,” said Duncan. “Each season, we get to welcome families who are continuing their own holiday traditions, and that’s what makes it so special to us.”

Howard Family Holiday Farm in Moody has become a favorite destination for families looking to start or continue Christmas traditions. The farm offers pre-cut farm fresh premium Fraser Fir and Black Hills spruce trees available in sizes 6-12 feet, along with handmade wreaths, garlands and other seasonal touches. You're also not going to want to miss shopping for locally made goods in the holiday barn!
“We are excited to see the same faces of those who brought their families to enjoy our farm last year,” said David Howard of Howard Family Holiday Farm. “For us, it’s about more than selling trees — it’s about creating a place where people can slow down and enjoy the season together.”

The appeal of visiting a Christmas tree farm goes beyond tradition. It’s a moment of connection— to family, to community and to the land. Whether you’re sipping cocoa, taking a hayride or whispering your Christmas wish to Santa, you’re stepping into a story rooted in Alabama soil and nurtured by Alabama hands.
This year, consider making a u-pick Christmas tree farm part of your holiday season. The tree you bring home will brighten your living room, but the memories you make wandering the rows together will stay even longer.
