Bartl Farms

Robertsdale, Alabama

Real farmers, real meat! Our mission is to help our customers gain access to high quality beef that they can trust! Through best farming practices, we strive to build up our land resources that support our cattle and crops for generations to come.

Established in 1914, Bartl Farms is a fourth-generation family farm located in Central Baldwin County, Alabama. We consider raising quality cattle to produce quality beef for your family a high privilege that we do not take for granted. The beef you purchase from us is from cattle who are raised on our farm. They are grass-fed and grain finished. Their feed is made on our farm with only the best ingredients grown on our farm. Their food never consists of hormones or antibiotics. We take pride in growing a quality product just as you take pride in providing quality meals for your family. Because we know that it is important to you to know where your food comes from, we consider it one of our most important responsibilities to make sure you are provided with the best beef raised on Bartl Farms.

Nestled between the busy cities of Pensacola and Mobile, is Gateswood, Alabama. Forested areas mixed with plains rise up in our community where agriculture is a mainstay. A variety of products are found growing here in our natural coastal plains and sandy clay loam soils. Our farm in Gateswood was bought by Anthony Bartl and Tim Bartl in 1977. The property was wooded with some pieces of homesteads left behind from previous use. After a year, the land was converted to crop land. As the farm grew, barns were built for machinery and grain bins were added for the crops.

We owe our way of life in large part to the generations that came before us. Our family is fortunate enough to have German roots that date all the way back to those who ventured to the United States in the early 1900s. Today's crew share the same passion with modern challenges.

Our cattle are offered a well balanced diet. When they are weaned from their momma, they are allowed to graze the pasture grass. To meet their ever-changing dietary needs, we also give them homegrown hay. In their last 90-120 days, we will feed them a grain mixture grown fresh on our farm. They are never fed hormones or antibiotics. Our cattle are offered room to move. They are kept in open fields where they have ample room to move and roam.

We use best practices for our crops. We focus on preserving our ground to allow for the best land and soil management available for our crops and cattle. Majority of our fertilizer is chicken litter.
Technology touches just about every aspect of our farm. GPS helps guide our tractors. We utilize GPS with a computer system allowing us to map out each field while pulling soil samples. Soil samples are used to test our soil to enable us to pinpoint what nutrients are in the soil. This allows us to add extra fertilizer only where it is needed.
Relationships are the foundation of our business. We don't always know the answer, but we are fortunate to maintain a network of experts. From butchers to agronomists, bankers, and veterinarians; their wealth of knowledge is impressive, and we like to keep our communication open to these partners.

When we decided to start the Farm Store at Bartl Farms, we wanted to leverage our experience of cattle feeding and combine it with today's demands of sustainability and traceability. Our customers will always receive beef from cattle locally raised on our farm, beef with no added hormones, aged to perfection, and antibiotic free homegrown feed. Just as you care about what you consume, we want our cattle to have fresh and wholesome feed ingredients. Our cattle feast on our homegrown forages and grains for nutrition each day. We know the cattle, we know the feed, we know the process. That is why we can say that there is no mystery in their history.
