Farmer Profile

The Slaystead

Tallassee, Alabama

My husband, David and I are stewards of The Slaystead. After inheriting his grandparent's home in 2016, we remodeled and made it our own. Cows and farming was never on our radar. But God had other plans. Beginning in 2017, my husband installed a 5 strand barbed wire fence around 26 acres... all by hand!! It took him 14 months to complete. We bought our first cows and chickens in 2019, and have grown the farm every year since. He handles the cattle, while I garden veggies and fresh cut flowers. This is my third year gardening and selling products from The Slaystead to the public. I sell at farmer's markets and online through our social media accounts. Products available are jams, jellies, vegetable plants in the spring, fresh produce and fresh cut flowers in the summer. In a few short months, we are adding Babydoll Sheep to the farm, and plan to sell the fiber and have photo opportunities available to the public.
