Simple Creamer Peas

Ingredients: 

  • 1 bag of Sweet Grown Alabama creamer peas 
  • Water (enough to cover peas) 
  • Salt, to taste 
  • Black pepper, to taste 
  • Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning, to taste 
  • Ham pieces or 1 ham bone 

Instructions: 

  1. Rinse peas: Pour peas into a colander and rinse them throughly under cool water to remove dirt and debris.
  2. Prepare your pot: In a large pot, add rinsed peas and enough water to cover them by about an inch.
  3. Add flavor: Stir in ham pieces or bone. Then season with salt, pepper, and Tony's. Start light and add more as you cook.
  4. Bring to a boil: Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. 
  5. Simmer: Once boiling, reduce heat to low and cover. Let peas simmer gently for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until tender. Stir occasionally and check water levels (add more if needed).
  6. Taste and adjust flavor if needed, serve and enjoy!
