Benson Family Farms

Meet Jason and Casandra Benson, the couple behind Benson Family Farms, a fourth-generation cattle farm nestled on Merrill Mountain in the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama. Having grown up on neighboring farms, their shared journey began when they, like many parents, grappled with the challenge of finding quality meats they could feel good about feeding their children.

In 2016, they made a pivotal decision to go all-in on providing families with safe and delicious meats. They started producing grass-finished beef from the cows raised on their farm and began sourcing pastured pork from nearby farms that shared their values. Their story took an unexpected turn in 2022 with the arrival of their youngest, Brock, who has Down Syndrome. Brock has heightened their awareness of the importance of clean eating. Today, they extend their passion to help families like theirs by offering their high-quality meats, conveniently delivered straight to your door.

Their combined farms span approximately 200 acres of green pastures, adorned with a mix of fescue and native grasses, complemented by shaded hills featuring native evergreens and hardwoods. The herd, consisting of about 25 brood cows with calves and registered Black Angus bulls, is managed in harmony with the natural seasonality, ensuring a respectful and sustainable approach. Beef is harvested twice a year, in the spring and the fall.

What sets Benson Farms apart is their unwavering commitment to transparency. The Bensons are committed to hormone and antibiotic-free practices. Their cattle are raised naturally, maturing at their own pace without the use of growth hormones. They thrive in open pastures, eliminating the need for preventative antibiotics. And they've chosen not to implement an extensive vaccine program, relying on their small, closed herd and abundant grazing space.

However, Jason and Sandy know that that it doesn't matter how healthy it is if it doesn't taste good. They say that their natural grass finishing combined with the dry-aging process used by their USDA certified artisan butchers results in a finished product that tastes amazing and stands apart from the products available on most grocery store shelves. And they’ve got plenty of first-hand testimonials to back their claim up!
