MONTGOMERY, Ala.— Sweet Grown Alabama, the state’s agricultural branding program, is pleased to welcome Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama as a top financial supporter of the non-profit organization.

“Supporting Sweet Grown Alabama allows Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama to support local farmers, producers, and makers to increase the health, wellness, and education of Alabamians,” said Tim King, Blue Cross Community Relations Manager. “Giving back to the community is a corporate goal of ours and we are proud to support Sweet Grown Alabama and their many community partners across Alabama.”

Sweet Grown Alabama connects consumers to healthy, locally grown products through an online searchable database at SweetGrownAlabama.org. This contribution from Blue Cross will be utilized to ensure more Alabamians are aware of this free resource to access local produce, meat, honey and more.

“When you think ‘health’ and Alabama, Blue Cross Blue Shield immediately comes to mind,” said Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson. “We are thrilled to partner with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama to help more consumers find healthy, local products to purchase, and to further develop a strong network of healthy products grown right here in our state.”

Sweet Grown Alabama is a membership program composed of over 300 farms and business statewide. In addition to the online searchable database, Sweet Grown Alabama markets local products through traditional and online advertising, speaking engagements, special events and a monthly e-newsletter.

With over 2 million customers in Alabama, Blue Cross is the largest health insurance provider in the state. As a major philanthropic contributor to health and human causes, Blue Cross positively impacts Alabama citizens through The Caring Foundation grant program, corporate sponsorships of community activities and the “Be Healthy” school grant program.
