Harvesting Joy

Harvesting Joy

Grand Oaks Lavender Farm

City girl to the country. We stood in our new state at our new fence line in awe, staring across a farm the size of our previous city's subdivision and wondered "What are we supposed to do with this?" Two memories flooded my mind; a flower farm my mom and I frequented over my childhood when driving often to Kiawah Island, SC and then a lavender farm frequented on weekends by all of us city folks, looking for relaxing air. All of the sudden I found myself saying out loud to my husband, "I think these fields are supposed to be lavender for our friends wanting to get away and just breathe."

A few weeks later we received our first 600 plants. We hand tilled our mile walk of lavender because we did not even own a tractor or a mower yet. That was very hard work. We eventually found a farmer with a tractor and added more lavender above our lake on the hill. We formed our lakeside lavender field into the shape of a cross. The Cross Garden is a place for prayer in remembrance of my brother and all others who died post 2020.

Our first lavender harvest was in 2022 and to our delight we sold every bushel of lavender we harvested. This year, in 2023, they are matured and our six feet wide walkways between rows will be covered with beautifully scented, purple blooms! Lavender plants bloom from May through October each year. However, the first full flush, is most certainly the prettiest. We welcome yoga classes, artists, gardening classes, photographers as well as lavender farm weddings to enjoy our beautiful lavender and its relaxing, beautiful scent.

If you would like more information, to plan a visit, or be on my list of clients to call to offer a time slot for picking your own bundles or taking photos, at our 'peak bloom one day event' in May or June, please text or call Kate at: (256) 697-0465 to get on our Lavender Bloom call/text list.

You can always pre-reserve your bundles by contacting us. We will harvest, dry and bundle them for farm pick-up or delivery for our commercial clients.

Our onsite beautiful Lavender Farm Shop opens in June! The shop houses our lavender bundles, distilled oils, dried buds and more! A special touch to the Lavender Shop is a beautiful hand painted mural by Alabama artist, Trevor Hill. We can't wait to share his beautiful artwork with you in our Lavender Farm Shop! We also have HVAC and classroom space for our lavender classes and tours.

We are continuing to add hundreds of new lavender each year to our fields as we expand our farm into a lavender ministry. Our ministry side is currently building an open air chapel this year in the middle of one of our lavender fields. Our outdoor Lavender Chapel will be available for weddings, christenings or funerals beginning fall 2023.
