Alabama has a new industry: Wild Harvested Mushrooms!

Sweet Grown Alabama members the Fungi Farm are now offering the first and only Wild Mushroom ID Expert Training Course in Alabama. Until now, selling wild harvested mushrooms commercially has been prohibited in Alabama. This is the first and only certification course approved by Alabama health officials.

"Sweet Grown Alabama members are leaders in the industry," said Director Ellie Watson. "Allen Carroll and the Fungi Farm team are paving the way for a new wild-harvested mushroom market in Alabama. This will not only provide additional revenue opportunities for landowners, but will also allow Alabama chefs and consumers to safely and sustainably source wild-harvested mushrooms."

Alabama residents are not accustomed to seeing fresh wild mushrooms like those found on the west coast or even Atlanta for that matter. Yet with demand growing steadily across the country for gourmet cuisine incorporating these delicate flavors of nature’s bounty, there is no time like the present for this burgeoning industry to take hold here at home!

Mushrooms are growing in popularity across the country, and Alabama is no exception. Whether you own a gourmet restaurant, farm or just want to start your own small business selling wild mushrooms at farmers markets, don’t miss out on this opportunity!
