Meet Sweet Grown Alabama Member Bennett Farms

Cleburne County

Bennett Farms in Heflin is a proud member of the state's new agricultural branding program, Sweet Grown Alabama. A popular agritourism destination, Bennett Farms is a great place to take the whole family for fun farm activities including hayrides, animal petting areas, a gift shop and much more.

“I am a big proponent of organizations like Sweet Grown that promote and stand behind local farmers,” said farm owner Jim Bennett.

Sweet Grown Alabama exists to connect Alabama farmers and families. The non-profit foundation helps farmers promote their products through a convenient online searchable database. Consumers can locate Sweet Grown Alabama farmers in their area by searching the database via zip code or by product.

“Agritourism operations like Bennett Farms play a critical role in educating consumers about Alabama agriculture,” said Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson. “Not only is Bennett Farms helping consumers reconnect with the farm, but they are also supporting other local farmers through events and markets. They are the perfect representation of Sweet Grown Alabama’s local values.”

The farm began in 2010 and has continued to grow ever since. Jim and his family established Bennett Farms as a pumpkin patch in the fall but host seasonal markets on the farm throughout the year with a wide variety of venders.

“Sweet Grown is an awesome platform that shares our passion of farming and buying local,” said Bennett. “It links all of our similar but different objectives and goals to promote our home-grown businesses.”

This summer, Bennett Farms is offering flower picking and is selling a variety of cooked goods. Their pumpkin patch and other fun activities will reopen in the fall. Bennett Farms is located at 1073 County Rd. 13 in Heflin. Visit bennettfarms.com for more information and to stay up to date with farm events and activities
