Meet Sweet Grown Alabama Member City Market

Lee County

City Market in Auburn is a proud member of the state's new agricultural branding program, Sweet Grown Alabama. Operated by the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department since October 2019, City Market is a great way to spend time with the family this summer. The market is located at Town Creek Park and their summer hours are 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Saturday.

“It is important to us to promote our local vendors so that community members truly understand the fresh, local and handmade products that they provide,” said Auburn’s Special Events Coordinator Sarah Cook.

Sweet Grown Alabama exists to connect Alabama farmers and families. The non-profit foundation helps farmers promote their products through a convenient online searchable database. Consumers can locate Sweet Grown Alabama farmers and markets in their area by searching the database via zip code or by product.

“With a wide selection of vendors and high-quality local products, City Market is a great spot to spend a summer Saturday morning,” said Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson, who is also an Auburn resident. “City Market does a great job bringing local products to consumers, and it is a convenient way to support many farmers in one place.”

In 2018, the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department started a local farmers market the third Tuesday of each month. Because of this small market’s success and requests from local farmers, city leaders decided a consistent market was needed in Auburn. In October 2019, City Market opened and continues to grow exponentially.

City Market is located at 1150 South Gay St. and is open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Saturday from May 30 through Aug. 29. To learn more about weekly vendors and special events like City Market, visit AuburnAlabama.org/park/programs.
